How to Add a Booking Engine to a Wix Hotel Website

You can add a booking engine to a Wix hotel website without rebuilding anything. The simplest way is a hosted booking page: your booking system gives you a link, and you point your Book Now button at it. If you want guests to book without leaving your own pages, paste an embed code into your site, or use an iframe version if Wix blocks scripts.
Squarespace, GoDaddy and hand-built sites work the same way. Here is how each option works, how to choose, and what to check before you send real guests to it.
Why Wix and Squarespace hotel sites need a separate booking engine
Wix and Squarespace are good at making a site look nice. Neither is a hotel booking system. They do not know your room types, your weekend rates, which rooms are closed for a roof repair, or that Room 12 is already booked tonight.
So the site builder handles the photos and the words, and a booking engine connected to your property management system (PMS) handles availability, rates and payment. The engine reads the same calendar your front desk uses. That is the part that prevents double bookings and keeps your website prices matching everything else.
If your website currently says call us to book, or sends guests to an email form, you are losing the guest who wants to book at 11 PM on a Sunday and does not want to wait for a reply. Many of those guests then book on an online travel agency (OTA) and you pay commission on a guest who was already on your site. For more on that, see how to reduce OTA commissions at an independent hotel.
The three ways to add booking to a site builder
| Method | What the guest sees | Best for | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hosted booking page | A separate booking page with your hotel name, address and phone at the top | Fastest launch, any website | Lowest: add a link |
| Embed code | Booking search and checkout inside your own page | Hotels that want a seamless look | Low: paste one snippet |
| Iframe embed | The same booking inside your own page, in a frame | Sites that block scripts | Low: paste one snippet |
You can use more than one. Many small hotels start with the hosted page, then add the embed to a Book Now page once the site owner has time.
Option 1: Use a hosted booking page (easiest)
A hosted booking page lives on your booking system's address rather than inside your Wix site. It carries your property name, address and phone at the top, plus date search, room pages and checkout.
With Lodging Suite the steps look like this:
- Sign in as an owner or manager. Only owners and managers can turn this on.
- Go to Settings, then Website booking.
- Turn on the hosted booking page and choose the name that goes at the end of your address. Your page will be at lodgingsuite.com/book/ followed by that name.
- Copy the link.
- In Wix, open the editor, select your Book Now button (or add one to your header), choose the link option and paste the address.
- Publish the site, then click the button yourself on a phone and a laptop.
The same settings screen shows a QR code for the page. Print it for the front desk, room key sleeves, a flyer in the breakfast room or a sign at a nearby event. A guest who walks past your sign and books from their phone is a direct booking.
The tradeoff is that the guest leaves your Wix page for a moment. For most small properties that is fine, since the booking page shows your name and phone number and looks like part of your brand.
Option 2: Paste an embed code into your page
An embed code puts the booking search and results inside one of your own pages, so the guest never feels like they left. You get the code from the same Website booking settings and paste it into the page where you want booking to appear.
In Wix this usually means adding an embed or custom code element to the page and pasting the snippet in. In Squarespace it is typically a code block. Menu names change from time to time, so look for the embed, HTML or code element in your editor. Also check that your site plan allows custom code, because some entry-level plans limit it.
Tips for the embed:
- Give it its own page, such as Book Now or Reservations, and link to that page from your menu. A booking form squeezed into the bottom of the home page is easy to miss.
- Make the page wide. Booking forms look cramped in a narrow column.
- Leave plenty of height below the embed, so the guest can scroll through the room results and checkout.
Option 3: Use the iframe version if scripts are blocked
Some site builders and plans block script snippets for security reasons. If you paste an embed code and nothing shows up, that is usually why. An iframe is a simpler way of showing another page inside yours, and most builders allow it.
Lodging Suite offers an iframe version of the embed for exactly this case. Paste it into the same kind of element, publish and test. If the iframe version also fails, fall back to the hosted booking page, which works on any site because it is just a link.
What to set up before you send guests to it
A booking engine is only as good as the data behind it. Spend an hour on this checklist before launch:
- Room types and photos. Each room type guests can book should have an accurate name, description and photos.
- Rates and seasons. Set your base rates, weekend adjustments, holidays and special dates. See rates, seasons, packages and restrictions. A require seasonal rates switch in Lodging Suite stops dates with no price from being sold online, which protects you from a $0 night.
- Closures and restrictions. Close rooms that are out of order. Add minimum stays for peak weekends if you use them.
- Payment mode. Decide whether guests pay by card at booking or hold a room without paying. With Lodging Suite you can use Pay on Arrival, or connect your own Stripe account for deposits (a percentage, a fixed amount or the first night). Stripe charges its own card processing fees, so factor those in. Card numbers are never stored in Lodging Suite; Stripe handles them. Details are on the payments and billing page.
- Policies and confirmation email. Check cancellation terms, check-in time and the confirmation message the guest will receive.
- A test booking. Book a room yourself, on a phone, using a coupon code if you offer one. Then find that reservation at the front desk and cancel it.
Common mistakes to avoid
Hiding the Book Now button. Put it in the header on every page, and again on the room pages. Guests decide fast.
Different prices on the website and the OTAs. If guests find a lower price on Booking.com than on your own site, they will book there. If you sell through OTAs, keep rates consistent, and read how to avoid double bookings between Booking.com and Expedia so your calendars never disagree.
Forgetting mobile. Most of your website visitors are on phones. Test on one every time you change something.
Booking forms that are not connected to availability. A contact form that sends you an email is a request, not a booking. Someone has to answer it, and the room may be gone by then.
Letting the booking page go stale. If you change your rates in the PMS and the website uses separate pricing, you now maintain two sets of numbers. Choose a booking engine that reads rates from the system you already use.
How Lodging Suite handles booking on Wix and Squarespace
Lodging Suite includes a commission-free booking engine for your own website. For a WordPress site there is a plugin. For Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy or a hand-built site, you use the hosted booking page or the embed code described above, and both come from Settings, Website booking.
The important part is that there is nothing to sync. Every rate, season, closure and restriction you set in Lodging Suite is honoured on the booking page automatically, and guests see live availability. A booking made on your website lands as a reservation on your tape chart, and the reservation shows up on your reservations page like any other.
Pricing is per room per month, with no setup fee or contract: $5.99 per room for 1 to 49 rooms, $5.49 for 50 to 99, and $4.99 for 100 or more. The 30-day free trial covers the full system. See pricing for the add-ons. If you also sell on Booking.com or Expedia, the optional channel manager is $29 per property per month and keeps those channels in step with your own site.
You can look at the booking side first in the live demo, which uses a sample hotel that resets every hour.
Start your free trial
If your Wix or Squarespace site still sends guests to a phone number or a contact form, you can have a working booking page this week. Start the 30-day free trial at lodgingsuite.com/signup. No credit card is needed. Set up your rooms and rates, turn on the hosted booking page, and test it with a booking of your own before you share the link.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a booking engine to a Wix hotel website?
Yes. Link your Book Now button to a hosted booking page, or paste an embed code into a Wix page. If Wix blocks the script, use an iframe version of the embed instead.
What is the easiest way to add online booking to Squarespace?
A hosted booking page. You copy the link from your booking system and point a Book Now button at it. It needs no code and works on any site builder.
What is the difference between an embed code and an iframe?
An embed code is a snippet that builds the booking form inside your page. An iframe shows a separate booking page inside a frame on your page. Use the iframe if your site builder blocks scripts.
Does Lodging Suite work with Wix, Squarespace and GoDaddy?
Yes. Turn on the hosted booking page under Settings, Website booking, then link a button to it or paste the embed code. An iframe version is offered for builders that block scripts.
Can guests pay when they book on my hotel website?
Yes, depending on your setting. With Lodging Suite you can connect your own Stripe account for card payment or deposits, or let guests hold a room and pay on arrival. Card numbers are never stored in Lodging Suite.
